Larry's Ride: From Farm to Finance—A Country Boy's Journey

Larry D. Miller

  • 1200

In this autobiography, the author shares his life story of finding significance in his life by saying yes to opportunities that he never imagined. Even though these opportunities took him away from his farm, along the way he became comfortable with his leadership style and his calling to serve others. His lifelong faith and career experiences in financial cooperatives came together to serve church members with financial services that reflect Christian stewardship and mutual aid. (204pp. illus. Masthof Press, 2026.)

A John Deere Journey

I've known Larry personally for approximately 15 years, especially since he began participating with a men's group in Harrisonburg. I did not know very much about Larry's back-story, about all the ways, from an early age, he kept growing professionally and as a church leader until he became the President and CEO of Mennonite Mutual Aid, now Everence. This memoir provides a clear picture of an ever-evolving life. I enjoyed one constant component of Larry's life -- his love affair with John Deere tractors and his appreciation for the farmers who guided them through their fields throughout his lifetime.

A Good Read

Having known Larry since high school this book was a particularly fun read. And I learned things about his career that I did not know. Anyone who grew up on a farm or in a small rural community will especially enjoy reading Larry's stories.
