Town, Township & Regional Histories


Historical Highlights of Morris Run Pennsylvania (Wellsboro Gazette, 1932, 56 pages) 

This is a centennial history of Morris Run, Tioga County PA.  Much of the history focuses on the coal industry which fed the area's development.  Along with this is coverage of other areas of the community - church, civic, etc.  A program of events from the centennial celebration is included, as are a number of historical photographs of the area, and ads for local businesses.


1849-1949 Centennial Souvenir Edition History of Clymer Township Tioga County, Penna.

This is a centennial history of Clymer Township, Tioga County, PA and the towns and villages within.  The historical information included details on many residents of the area, and is supplemented by a number of historical photographs of people and places of the township.


Elkland Centennial 1850-1950 (Anonymous, 1950, 78 pages)

This is a centenial history of Elkland, Tioga County, PA and vicinity.  It begins in aboriginal times and discusses the settlement of the area, formation of Elkland and its development over the years.  Several influential residents are discusses - Samuel Tubbs, Joel Parkhurst, David Hammond, Martin Stevens, Marinus Stull, George Dorrance, John Ryon, Leander and Fred Culver, Charles Pattison, John Wood and Joseph Cornelius.  Other aspects of the community are covered as well: Schools, churches, railroads, professions and businesses.  It also contains a list of men and women from the area who served in WWII.  Along with the historical information, there are many photographs and illustrations of the town and surrounding area and prominent citizens.


History of Mansfield Borough 1857-1957 (George A. Retan, 1957, 57 pages) 

This is a centennial history of Mansfield, Tioga County, PA published in 1957.  It provides a chronological history of the town and its growth from its establishment to 1957.  It also covers various civil aspects of the town: government, homes, businesses, and other organizations.  Along with the information are a number of historical photographs highlighting the town and its residents.


Wellsboro – The First 25 Years (Charles G. Webb, 1965, 98 pages)

This is a history of the early years of Wellsborough, Tioga County, PA.  From the foreword: "It is my purpose here to tell the story of the beginnings of Wellsboro up to and including its incorporation.  This is the period about which the least is known."  Part of the historical discourse focuses on the first settlers to the area as well as those who came as the town grew. Included is an assessment of the town's residents from 1831.  Also, a number of maps are presented to provide a clearer picture of how the town grew.


A Compendium of Events and History of Tioga County

(Tioga Printing Corporation, 1973, 70 pages)

This is a history of Wellsboro, Tioga County, PA.  It covers the early history of the area and town then follows its development through the years, touching on many aspects of the town.  Complementing the information are some historical photographs of the area and its residents.  There is also a section covering the general history of the county and some of its early pioneer settlers.  


Life in Liberty, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1893-1974 (Gale Largey, 1974, 72 pages)

This is a history of Liberty Borough, Tioga County, PA.  The account of the area is broken down into several time periods documenting the growth of the borough.  It includes numerous historical photographs of the town and its people. 


Elkland, Pennsylvania 1950-1975 – The Fifth Quarter (Bicentennial Committee, 1976, 80 pages)

This is a follow-up history of Elkland, PA from the Centennial History published in 1950.  According to the foreword, this is "a book of current events - a record of how Elkland has met and continues to meet the challenges of its second century of existence."  This edition also includes photographs of the area and its residents.


Westfield Area - A Tribute to the Bicentennial

(Westfield Bicentennial Committee, 1976, 68 pages)

According to the foreword, this publication was written to 'spotlight interesting personalities and events which strongly influenced the Westfield area'.  It includes both historical and biographical information on Westfield and Potter Brook, outlining businesses, families and individuals.
