Burkholder (1919-1980) was a graduate of Shippensburg University and member of New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church near Waynesboro, Pa. After graduation he married Mildred Wenger (1913-1996) and moved to Schellsburg, Bedford Co., Pa., where he had taught high school for two years, before receiving a draft notice. During WWII, John served for two years through Civilian Public Service (CPS) in Shenandoah National Park, Luray, Va. John was the editor of the CPS Newsletter the \u003cem\u003eSkyliner\u003c\/em\u003e. His diaries cover much of his time in CPS and include over 400 individuals. This book displays a copy of each diary page along with a corresponding transcription and annotation, further identifying every name mentioned.
