Have you ever been told you will be a leader, but no one actually gave you the training? You may have reviewed different websites, watched podcasts or even consulted with other people on leadership. Your search is finally over.

The Art of Leadership gives you the tools to deal with some of the most complex issues that leaders face on a daily basis. Some of those issues like: How to Have a Difficult Conversation; The Difference Between Manipulation and Leadership; Why Is Humility the Cornerstone in Leadership; and many, many more. If you are a leader now, or maybe you wish to be one in the future, this book is for you. If you are a stay-at-home mom or a successful business owner–here is something for everyone. The key is if you want personal and professional growth! This book will help you on your journey. Don’t take my word for it. This is what other people have said:

“This is the kind of work that belongs on the desks and bookshelves of those who lead—whether in uniform, in business, or in the community. It reminds us not just how to lead, but why we lead.”
-Bobby Baker, Captain, U.S. Navy (Retired)

In The Art of Leadership, David matches stories to core qualities of bravery, morality, intuition and faith. It is my honor to help bring to the American public these cherished values so skillfully designed in the course work.”
-Cindy McGrew, Founder and CEO of Operation Second Chance, Inc.

10 out of 10

I really enjoyed The Art of Leadership. What I liked most was how the book broke the content into a weekly, digestible format, with each lesson following a consistent pattern. That made it easy to stay engaged and actually reflect on what I was reading.

The content was useful, practical, and encouraging. I appreciated the focus on humility, trust, active listening, teamwork, and personal growth, along with the faith-based perspective and real-world stories woven throughout. Overall, this is a meaningful and engaging book for anyone who wants to grow as a leader. 10 out of 10.

P.S. To be honest, I enjoyed it so much I didn't stick with the weekly reading plan. I usually read three or four lessons a week, but I will go back through it again, I am sure.

Highly recommended!

Leadership is an art, but it’s forged in the fire of experience. I saw David Ocheltree’s leadership firsthand during our time together in the Navy, and I can say without reservation: he lives the principles he writes about. 'The Art of Leadership' is a rare find—a book that balances the weight of 250 years of American excellence with the practical tools needed for today’s challenges. Whether you’re on the bridge of a ship or in a boardroom, David’s insights are essential. Highly recommended!

Leadership That Works in Real Life

As a 100% disabled veteran, leadership did not end when I took the uniform off. It simply changed. The Art of Leadership has already helped me grow professionally and lead more effectively within my family. What sets this book apart is how practical and grounded it is. The lessons are clear, realistic, and rooted in accountability, humility, and earned trust.

This is not theory or motivation for motivation’s sake. These are principles you can apply immediately at work, at home, and in everyday decisions. The book reinforced that leadership is not about rank or control, but consistency and responsibility, especially when things are hard.

I highly recommend this book to veterans, service members, and anyone who wants leadership guidance that actually works in real life.
